UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE · FLORES
How close you can actually sleep to the dragons, what the park rules allow, and what proximity costs you.
Plan a Park TripYou cannot stay inside Komodo National Park — it is a protected UNESCO site with no resort accommodation. Every "park resort" is a property on Flores or a neighbouring island, judged by how fast its boat reaches the ranger stations.
Dragon viewing is ranger-led, on marked trails, at a fixed distance. That is not a formality — these are wild animals with a genuine bite risk, and the rangers set the pace.
Go early. The first boats reach the trailheads before the day-trip fleet, which is the difference between a quiet walk and a queue. Any resort worth its rate will arrange that departure time.
What the park holds
The park is two attractions sharing one boundary, and most people plan for only one.

Manta Point, Batu Bolong and Castle Rock. Strong currents; this is not a beginner coast everywhere.
The three-bay viewpoint, and the reason half the photographs of Indonesia look the way they do.
Crushed red coral in the sand. Best in morning light, before the boats arrive.
