Diving & Snorkelling in Komodo

Some of the strongest currents in Indonesia, and some of the best marine life because of them.

Plan Dive Days

In short

Komodo is a current-driven site. That is what feeds the mantas and the reef, and it is also why the dive plan is decided on the morning rather than the week before.

  • Dive day rates are quoted per trip by the operator — we get them for your dates rather than list a figure that moves.
  • Komodo National Park entry is about USD 40-50 per person and separate from any dive price.
  • Manta Point snorkels well — you do not need certification to see them.
  • April to December for visibility; manta sightings peak around September to November.

Three Levels, Three Different Coasts

The same park gives you very different days depending on what you are certified for.

01

Beginner

Sheltered bays and shallow reefs, with structured lessons if you want them. No current, plenty of fish, and Manta Point still reachable on a snorkel.

02

Intermediate

Reef systems and gentle drift dives. This is where most of the coral photography happens, and where Komodo starts to feel like Komodo.

03

Advanced

Current dives, deep walls and the outer sites. Batu Bolong and Castle Rock belong here — they are not forgiving of an inflated logbook.

Be honest about your level when you book. Operators here will move you, and the ones that do not are the ones to avoid.

Liveaboard or Day Boat

Day boats from Labuan Bajo reach the closer sites comfortably and get you back to a proper bed. That covers most of what people want.

A liveaboard is what you book when you want the outer sites at slack water and a second dive before the fleet arrives. It costs more and the cabin is smaller. Both are right, for different trips.
