Voyages Through Flores & Komodo

Which vessel, which route, and how many nights it actually takes to see the park properly.

Plan a Voyage

In short

The park is compact enough to sail in two nights and rich enough to justify four — the deciding factor is whether you dive.

  • Two nights: Padar, a dragon trek, Pink Beach and Manta Point.
  • Three to four nights: the outer dive sites, and the same stops without a queue.
  • Departures run from Labuan Bajo harbour, twenty minutes from the airport.
  • Park entrance and ranger fees are per person and separate from the charter rate.

Three Kinds of Vessel

The fleet here splits cleanly, and each split costs you something.

01

Luxury phinisi

Traditional two-masted wooden vessel, wide shaded decks, handcrafted interiors. Slow between sites, and the reason most people picture Komodo the way they do.

02

Motor yacht

Faster between anchorages, more cabin comfort per metre, less deck to sit on. Right when the itinerary is long and the days are short.

03

Dedicated dive boat

Compressor, tank racks and a crew that plans by tide table. Plainer accommodation, and the only sensible choice for serious diving.

Deck space is what you live on for two days. It matters more than the cabin, and it is what the photographs never show.

What a Route Looks Like

A typical two-night run leaves Labuan Bajo in the afternoon, anchors overnight, climbs Padar at first light, then works south through the dragon trek and Pink Beach before Manta Point on the second day.

The order changes with the tide and the wind, and a captain who refuses to change it is the wrong captain. Fixed itineraries look reassuring on paper and cost you the best conditions of the trip.

Booking a voyage

Four Steps to a Confirmed Boat

Vessel availability moves faster than resort availability. This is the order that avoids disappointment.

  1. 01

    Fix the dates first

Boats are booked by the night, not by the room. Dates decide which vessels are even in the conversation.

  2. 02

    Pick the vessel type

Phinisi, motor yacht or dive boat. This narrows a fleet of dozens to a handful.

  3. 03

    Agree the route

Stops and nights, with the explicit understanding that the captain reorders them for weather.

  4. 04

    Permits and transfers

Park permits, harbour transfers and airport pickup booked as one, so nothing is left to arrange on arrival.

Peak season boats are held months ahead. Late 2027 is already being booked.
